Wonderful West Worcestershire

Walking and Wayfaring

Martley paths are well known in Worcestershire for being open, well signposted and well kept. The PATH-OR-NONES have been maintaining the 41 miles of rights of way in Martley for over 20 years, the community's reward is a regular stream of visitors enjoying the routes and bringing benefits to local outlets as well as to those who walk. Martley was recipient of the first ‘WALKERS ARE WELCOME’ accolade in Worcestershire and many say it has the best kept paths in the county.

The Path-or-Nones have posted ten freely downloadable, local circular walking routes on their WEBSITE In addition the WORCESTERSHIRE and GEOPARK WAYS run through Martley, each also having its own 'loop' walk off the main route. The Worcestershire Way and the Geopark Way have excellent guides for sale in Martley shops, and free pamphlets for the loop walks can be picked up at all outlets. So, plenty to choose from, for every taste and ability.

Stay at The Chandlery, let me give you guidance on your walking plans (I have been Parish Paths Warden for over 15 years) and enjoy the area. Dry your wet clothes and boots, if you need to; eat my famous breakfasts and go forth to explore. Eating out is no problem--300 metres to an excellent pub--The Crown--whose food is gaining a great reputation.

Use The Chandlery as a base for exploring the GeoParkWay or the Worcestershire Way, try a section a day, leaving all your luggage with me. Stroll down the 4 miles to The TALBOT at Knightwick, sample their home brewed ales 'This', 'That', 'T'Other'. Walk up to the ADMIRAL RODNEY, 1 mile, and taste ROBINSONS CIDER from Tenbury Wells.

You know, there really is nothing like the western reaches of Worcestershire, the junction between the flat midlands plain and the uplands of ancient Britain, leaving such a choice of hidden valleys, rushing rivers and countryside redolent of Elgar's music.
