Wonderful West Worcestershire

Wheels and Wanderings

You know, Martley has to be one of THE best centres for on-road cycling and cycle touring. Popular with cycling clubs who use our roads for regular weekend cycle speed trials, Martley and west Worcestershire offer everything a touring cyclist would want—quiet lanes, hilly or flatter routes, magnificent rolling countryside with views to higher places, rivers, numerous ancient sites and excellent, real ale pubs and first rate restaurants.

Seriously though, ALL is good but the selection of CAMRA recommended pubs is the best, two with micro-breweries, taste the countryside in the brews! Then there is Robinson’s cider from Tenbury Wells. Ahh

Slip away with your bike for a short break, base yourself at The Chandlery and take in this un-crowded easy to access region (M5 10 miles, Worcester city 7).

If you haven't a bike to bring or don't have the room to pack it, hire one! My local bike outlet THE GREEN BIKE COMPANY has plenty to choose from at most reasonable prices.

I will provide you with free route maps pointing out historic places, churches, houses, pubs and where to dine—all tested by yours truly. No need for bike panniers and weighty luggage, leave all that with me and follow a circular cycling route of your choice. When not being used, your bikes will be in concealed covered storage, and if it should rain, wet clothes are no problem—I’ll dry them for you. Breakfasts at The Chandlery are becoming famous (check my reviews), with local produce including lovely local jams and marmalades as well as the eggs and bacon.

How about walk a day, cycle a day? This is a good option where you can enjoy the very best of both worlds, and avoid overdoing one thing or the other. There are ten local circular walking route guides available for free, and don’t forget, Martley was recipient of the first ‘Walkers are Welcome’ accolade in Worcestershire and has the best kept paths!
